          About Us

           Chris Ward

Chris is the founder of Mountain Adventure and has been involved in the outdoors professionally for the last ten years. In that time he has spent a number of years as an instructor for Outward Bound but now coaches and guides for Mountain Adventure. He is a full member of The British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML). He is also a Winter and Summer Mountain leader, A Mountain bike leader (SMBLA), a climbing instructor (SPA) and a Canoe coach (BCU). He has climbed and mountain biked in the mountains in many countries including Borneo, Belize, Spain, France and Nepal and led expeditions to Everest base camp and Kinabalu. His passion is for mountain biking and can regularly be seen blazing down a trail in the Lake District.

          Joe Gittins

Joe has been freelancing for over ten years and has extensive knowledge of the mountain ranges around the world. He has guided expeditions to Kilimanjaro, The north Col of Everest, Aconcagua and Mongolia. He is a Mountain instructor (MIA) as well as a Cave leader and Mountain bike leader.

His main passion is for caving, although he has been shown the light recently (no pun intended) and now spends all his hard earned cash on his mountain bike.

Ascent Sports has been successfully operating since 2002 and our aim is to provide Outdoor Education and technical skills to a high standard so you can either learn new skills or develop your knowledge in a chosen activity under the watchful eye of a highly qualified and experienced instructor.

2012 SMBLA Dates and Info

For most activities the minimum group size is four people with no maximum (within reason).

At Ascent Sports, group size/Instructor ratio changes depending on the activity. For example, Mountain bike coaching is 1:6 where as Mountain bike guiding is 1:8.

Trail Cycle Leader

The ‘TCL’ is the core qualification for anyone wishing to lead groups of mountain bikers, especially youth groups, and to coach their development.
